For longevity of patch, suggested to sew on after heat set.
Heat seals (also known as iron-ons) work best on organic fibers such as cotton, linen, denim. Nylon and synthetics might start to melt if it's too hot, so be careful when selecting a temperature on synthetic fibers.
A basic backstitch around the border of the patch can set it in place if you're hesitant to use heat on a synthetic garment.
Disclaimer: gorilla glue/superglue is not recommended. If you do use it, please note that any areas that will see significant movement will eventually cause the dried glue to bend and weaken its effectiveness.
